Minutes

Administrative
Meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. June meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

President's Report
Letters of intent are due to the league by July 31. Joanne has received 16 letters from returning teams, and 3 letters from new teams coming in to the league. Letters must include a preliminary roster and what division the team would like to be placed. League fees are due by August 24.

Treasurer's Report
Deb was unable to attend the meeting but will work with Joanne to transition some of the financial items. Joanne is working with the bank to have statements sent to her address as they were never forwarded in the past.

Old Business

The main topic discussed at the meeting was the new rule that will be implemented in the 2006-07 season. The league is concerned about skilled players who skate in divisions below their level, and have addressed this by instituting a rule about ex-college players. The formal wording will be in the MSHL Handbook but generally states that ex-college or club level players will only be allowed to skate in the advanced divisions. This rule will also apply to players who dominate and set the tone for their games, even if they did not play in college. The Board, along with the Division Directors, will review instances this appears to be occurring. Teams will have the opportunity to appeal the Board's decision on a player by completing a form. More information will be available in the updated Handbook, along with the necessary forms.

New Business
The league is going to transition to the use of a formal application in place of letters of intent. The new forms will be available at the August meeting for teams to complete, and will be officially in place for next season.

Terry Mathews has been making revisions to the Handbook, and some of those changes were reviewed at the meeting. The Handbook will be posted on the league web-site as every player, coach and manager are responsible for knowing it's contents.

Development League
The league is beginning a new program this year that will offer new players a chance to learn hockey skills in a fun, friendly environment. The Development League will run in conjunction with the MSHL, from September to March, in a series of instructional sessions. For more information on this league, please contact Terry Mathews or Carrie Sirola.
Next meeting is Aug. 24 @ 7pm and mandatory for all teams to attend!!
