Metro Skaters Hockey League
Meeting - April 12, 2005

Meeting Overview

President Joanne Lukasik opened the meeting with a review of the minutes from the March meeting. Renee Dobrzelewski motioned to pass them, and Carrie Sirola seconded the motion.

Treasurer's Report

Kristen Drabicki reported that the current balance was $4, 578.76, though the league needed to pay for the night's meeting room and reimburse her for stamps.

Also, nine teams did not participate in the Ruicci Cup and Kristen will send them an email to inquire where they would like their checks to be sent. The tournament trophy would need to be engraved with this year's winners, costing $80 at a maximum.

Kristen reminded everyone her Treasurer commitment was up at the end of this season. From all of us on the Board, we want to thank Kristen for all of her hard work this year.

Old Business

Ruicci Cup
T-shirts for division winners have not yet been designed and printed. It was agreed this would be done again this year, and Carrie Sirola volunteered to check with Beck & Boys about the cost of approx. 120 shirts.

The silent auction netted $226 from the Ted Lindsey items that were donated by Gil Ruicci.

Kristen Drabicki put together a handbook for the next host team of the Ruicci Cup. Many thanks to Kristen for doing this - it will be a big help!

Beginner's Clinic
Terry Mathews and Carrie Sirola collected feedback from the clinic participants, and it was all very good. Most skaters asked when the league would be having something like this again, and many were willing to pay for it.

There was some discussion around a season-long developmental clinic that would be run in one arena, and players would pay a few for each session; for example, October-December and January-March. The Board was in agreement that this was a program the league should fully support, and preliminary steps were taken to begin planning.

New Business

Rescheduled Game
A game between the Smoothie Kings and Ice Dogs was rescheduled to a mutually agreed upon date, and then the Smoothie Kings did not show up to play. The Ice Dogs feel they should be reimbursed by S.K. for the cost of the ice and referees. The Board agreed that the game date had been chosen, and by not showing the Smoothie Kings chose to forfeit the game, and would therefore be responsible for reimbursing all costs to the Ice Dogs.

MSHL Elections
The league is accepting nominations for the Board of Directors for next season. The positions are: President, Vice-President and Ruicci Cup Co-Chair (2 spots), Treasurer, Secretary, and MAHA Representative. Renee Dobrzelewski will send the division Directors an email asking them to forward to all team reps, announcing that nominations must be in by April 30.

In the event there is more than one person running for a single position, electronic ballots will be distributed before the next meeting in May. Next year the Board will aim to have nomination forms available at the Ruicci Cup to collect more league-wide opinions.

Nationals
The MSHL sent four teams to Nationals this year, and all had a good showing. Varsity Graphics took the title in the Senior C division. Congratulations!! Theresa Fulgenzi suggested the league might want to incorporate a skills competition in to the Ruicci Cup, much like they do at Nationals.

Next meeting is May 16, 7 p.m. at Eddie Edgar Arena.
